Our Story
At Terra Mater Farma NY we believe in the wisdom of plants.
We believe plants communicate with each other, animals and those humans who stop long enough to listen. We are grateful for what plants give us and try not to take more than we need, treating the land with reverence and ensuring its health for the next generations.
In keeping with regenerative farming practices, a new word for an old wisdom, we believe our plants are the most nutrient rich. We believe plants tended with love, in the sun, free of synthetic chemicals, nourished by a rich mycorrhizal network, reflect their life-experience in the medicine they produce.
Only whole plant medicine can heal both our bodies and souls. We believe plants connect us to their spirit which in turn can connect us with each other and with the natural world. We believe plants can open us to a new consciousness.
Our herbs are deeply rooted; nourished by the air, wind and rain; tended and harvested by women’s hands. This is what we call Crone Grown. Our tinctures are made from these herbs.
We will be offering tinctures of Nettles, Motherwort, Purslane and Autumn Olive Berry for sale shortly, but for now we’re offering an educational experience using cannabis because that education is sorely needed as prohibition comes to an end.
For example, did you know that most diseases of aging are inflammatory in origin, thus making cannabis’s potent anti-inflammatory cannabinoids the best anti-aging supplement we can take.
It is the community that is aging (let’s say 40 or at least 50 and up) that really needs to know what we know! Younger people might be comfortable experimenting with cannabis on their own, but somewhat older people might not know where to start or how to get it or are frightened about what they’ve heard about the psychoactive “high” of THC.
We’re here for all of you, but particularly those who need nurturing and perhaps a bit of virtual hand-holding.
Experimenting with cannabis as you learn to find the right dose for you is an integral part of the educational experience.

We are but two founding members of a seven-member team at Terra Mater Farma. The other five members are plants. Four of our founding partners grow on the farm. We didn’t plant them. They showed up on their own. They are gifts from the earth. They have declared their wish to partner with us so that we may share what we’ve learned with others while we share the beneficence of their gifts as well.
Cannabis was the only member who was consciously planted, but she’d already called out to us to partner with her years before. We have responded to their calling by lovingly tending them in a way that is always giving back to Mother Earth - Terra Mater.
Mother Earth works cooperatively, in community, distributing her abundance and scarcer resources generously and equitably. Scientists are starting to catch up to this ancestral wisdom. They now have the evidence demonstrating the interconnectedness of all plant life, communicating through underground mycorrhizal networks that weave a web of reciprocity: sharing and exchanging nutrients for the benefit of the fungi and the trees, the land and the people.
Dependent on this underground web of life as we are, we recognize our responsibility to continue the wheel of reciprocity: This is why we practice what we now call regenerative farming practices, which are just aspects of indigenous knowledge. Such practices ensure that the soil will be able to sustain our children and their children for generations to come.
Plants grown in the open sun - lovingly tended while being nurtured by this powerful life-sustaining subterranean network - feed not just our physical bodies, but our souls. All plants can reach us this way, but for us it was the cannabis plant - with her unique ability to change human consciousness - that opened our hearts on a deeper level to the ancient knowledge that we and our elder green beings are all connected. It is this wisdom, which has sustained human life on earth for millennia.
Never more than now must we shift our consciousness for the sake of the earth we’ve blindly degraded and for our hungry spirits, longing for connection. It is this wisdom that cannabis has come back to teach us.
